Let's talk bunker shots, an area of a game which a lot of people don't enjoy. But when I get stuck in the sand, I always advise my three S's:
- swing length
- swing speed
- strike/sand
How to setup for a bunker shot
Have your feet shoulder width apart
Wiggle your feet into the sand to stabilize your base
Ball position is slightly front of centre for green-side bunker shots to chip the ball in the air
Ball striking
Ask yourself: "where do you want to hit the ball?"
If you want to get the ball stopping quickly, then you need to hit a lot closer to the golf ball.
My preference is a splash and roll. This is where I direct my club into the sand about an inch behind the ball, splash the sand, send the ball out of the bunker, and roll to the flag.
Swing
Your length of swing should be L to L with good acceleration into the ball.
I hope my tips help improve your bunker game.
